    George,
Did you want the tube type drain instead of the Garboard type so you can lead the oil drain tube out of the bilge or because it drains slightly more water out? Just curious. Bill

    That's right Bill.
    I think there's a slightly larger inside diameter....this is 1".
And just like you mentioned, it drains better, plus, when the expanding rubber plug is installed properly, it won't come out.
I understand the concern of leakage and rot, but when I finish and seal everything w/penetrating epoxy, there won't be any issues.

The other day I watched a TV show about a company in California that builds hot rods to order. It was pretty impressive in how many times the crew assembled and disassembled the particular car in a nine month period.
It seems like rigging the transom is just like that. I've assembled and disassembled all this hardware more times than I'd like to count.
Finally it's all starting to fit together.
I also removed all the tape off the transom in preporation to do a final polish on the gel before anything goes on the transom permanently.

But before that, I sealed all the holes in the thick part of the transom w/penetrating epoxy http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...uct.do?pid=754

Next I finally permanently installed the first piece of hardware....the drain tube using my new Moeller drain tube flanging dies. I smeared some anti-sieze on the threads of the dies to protect them. Next I cut the tube to length before assembling the tube and dies and used 5200 to seal the tube into the transom.

Then finally I installed the transom pickup...

    George,
Good to see that you are making progress. If you are like me, it is really fun putting the parts back together - Bill

It's the same Rustoleum epoxy industrial paint w/imersion activator I used in the bilge.
So far I really like it. It's VERY durable and hard. Not as shiny as Bilgecote but still nice.
