To Speedo or Not to Speedo

Im not talking about the bating suits Carl..lol
Im laying out may dash and origionally it didnt include a speedo, or a trim guage. I would like to have both but if I do then I need to come up wth a whole new dash design... Not that it is a hard thing to do, but I was hoping to keep the interior as origional as possible.
    Thoughts?

The problem with a speedo (speed measuring device) is they tend to show how fast you arent going.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a boat without the speedo, but I like having my 60mph pitot tube speedo. Always a big hit with the passengers too. For real data I carry a hand held garmin. If you put one in the original spot I think you'll be glad you did.

I saw a picture you posted earlier reguarding a replacent dash for my 66... Just inside the dash panel, Is that the spot?

    Spedo Location

    Buddy:
The spedo is usually located between the helm and the center SS 4 gauge instrument panel on most 18s.
Your "barrelback" which was earlier may, or may not, be the same location ?

Speedo's are crowd pleasers so they can say how fast they went! The trim gauge was the first hing I pulled out of my dash replaced it with a clock, to me trim varies so much due to sea conditions that relying on the needle IMO does not cut it. You need to learn how to feel your boat that comes with seat time and an eye on the tach and GPS.

That's the spot Buddy, also the spot for the oil temp gauge if you go with one.

Screw the speedo and the trim gauge. No need for either... All you need is a GPS with speed... Trim bit by bit until speed drops off instead of increasing... I got to the point in the 16 that this is how I'd do it. With the SS you used so little trim that the gauge was useless.. you just bumped the trim button and watched the GPS for speed rise... You need to learn to drive these things by the seat of your pants / feel... This isn't a cruiser that feels like a floating brick.

My dash was setup such that I had a tach, voltmeter, oil pressure, water temp and fuel level.
