There's a Spitfire hiding in the woods...

I finally had the chance to go and look over the Spitfire I have known about for a while. I think it's been parked under these trees for about 15 years. ...shame because it looks like it was a decent boat when parked just missing the engines and drives. It would be a huge project and man would I be upside down in it but I'm a sucker for taking home strays.

I think it could be saved but man what an undertaking!

The problem w/Spitfires and their cousins is the method of construction.....
Just ask Bill (old Red Alert).
To do this correctly would probably cost more than a new 22.

...yep, I was thinking maybe 50k invested for a 25-30K boat. Sounds about like all boats.

It's a shame that it always seems that these cool boats are never found to have been put away years prior nice and dry in a barn.
They're always outside in the weeds under a damn tree .

This one has a cover and it seems to have helped but it's pretty worn out now...

I notice that it also has been repainted so who knows what half a$$ed work was done to it .

BTW , that BARON is really sweet . Isn't it the same one that was the subject of a resto thread on OSO a while back ?

Ed Donnelly told me a while back about a Donzi Doral that was needing TLC and a new home.... Don't know if it's still there, or been carted off to the wreckers. But, a call to Ed may straighten things out if you're interested. I'm sure the acquisition price would be right if you are prepared for the backend of the deal.

From your pictures it looks like Donzi did not use any sealer on any of the parts that would be in the water, my Doral had the same lack of sealer & rotten transom. I have a Doral that's transom is built like the Spitfires it can be fixed but if you cant do it yourself it will cost $$$$$$$. Here are a few pic's of what you will find when you open up the transom. I did this work a few years ago & it still looks good not perfect but good.

This stuff isn't for the faint of heart.
If you can't spend quite a bit of time, on a pretty much continuous basis,
it could take quite a few years to complete.
