Good price, but you need at least 400 honest horsepower to spin the Solas 23 on a 16 or 18.

You don't always need to prop for top speed.

I understand completely. But a 260 hp engine won't crack 4,000 rpms with a Solas 23 in a lightly loaded Donzi 18 2+3, which is under the max engine rpm range. It would be constantly lugging the engine, preventing it from getting to the rpm range where good horsepower is made. That's all.

Someone who is unfamiliar with the characteristics of a Solas 23 prop, who is currently running the Volvo elephant ear 23 aluminum prop might think the Solas 23 would be a good upgrade. It would not be, because the 23 behaves more like a 25 as there is so little slip. On my 16, in the mid-range, slip was less than 5%.

I had a solas 21 with a 454, 1.63 drive in my last Donzi 18 and it was a little over propped.
