If it needs buffing, you can be pretty sure it's gel.
Donzi did paint some boats, but generally used high end acrylic/polyurethane
single stage paints which stand up to the sun very well.

    My stripe could use paint

I wax the blue stripe on my deck 3 times per year; the rest of the boat once. If I decide to keep the boat long term, I'll have it painted...
    Thank you, Patrick

I don't recall exactly when they started using paint colors instead of gel but it was probably around 2005-2006.

My 04 is gel and I believe Carl said his 05 is paint. My stripe is painted though.
But I also believe that Blueliner's 06 Aronow/GT? is gel. His is a solid blue hull/deck (with exception of deck stripe), so I'm guessing you could get single color gel other than white even after 05/06.

Mine is white gelcote bottom with dark blue paint from transom up to the trailer eye. White gelcote deck with dark blue painted stripe .
2003 18 classic, where were these built?

All of us are right, if all of the boat is a solid color its probably gelcote and painted stripe. If a bi color hull ( white bottom half, color upper) color is painted.

My 04 is a bi color hull and both the white and the yellow are gel.

I have far too many boats, just ask my Wife.

I know Bert, but the "NEW" Donzi factory is in Washington, NC, which I recommend everyone to go visit,
    It's very impressive.

    hull colors

I got a 67 18 I am restoring and it is red in color. I had alot of gel cracks so I had to grind and fair out. I would like to change the color to yellow and am wondering where I can find the yellows Donzi used on there 18 old to new?

    Thanks,

    Frank

Farjr: probably best to search through old threads here. Colour discussions have shown up a lot. Maybe start by searching Ferro and Minicraft. Hope that helps as a starting point.

As Rob said, check with Minicraft.com.
I ordered some yellow patch-paste for my 2004 yellow and it was an exact match.

You can search for color by boat brand on their website.

I believe the GK40 listed for pre-89 boats is the yellow
