Not to sure what I have

So I've been trying to find a yoke for my 280 and I'm not having to much luck. I posted in the wanted section ( http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthre...66-Volvo-parts ). How hard can it be to find a yoke for a 280, for me impossible, lol. Anyway the splines on my intermediate shaft coming from my engine are course and rounded. Compared to normal course splines that are square. Any help would be great, my poor 16 is just sitting on the lift. Thanks Chris

a 280 I thought was a fine spline I will take a pic of the 250 u joints I have but I think they are the same as what F'ingscreenname posted if you have the original drive u joints can't you just marry the old engine side with the new 280 drive side?

I can't say for sure but I think they may have varied the depth of the splines during production we put a 250 and a 270 on a 250 intermediate but on the 270 intermediate the 250 bottomed out a hair short and would not bolt up.

The problem is I can't get the female spline to even start on the male splines. The splines on my intermediate shaft are rounded too. So the square splines of a 270 or 250 won't work.

just looked at my stuff again when my hornet was upgraded from a 250 to a 280PT they keep the imtermediate shaft from the 250 and used the front half of the 250 course spline ujoints so am going to hold onto the ujoints which wouldn't have worked for you anyway.

the reason I asked what intermediate you have it may be from a 270-280T which is sort of a white elephant most of the parts will only work on that model they are a world unto themselves.

do you have the drive that came with that intermediate?

I think I have just a 280, no trim just tilt. But what is different is between the bell housing and the transom plate is a 12 inch long housing with the drive shaft I am trying to slide my drive on to. Someone told me it's a Borg& Warner made part.

There were two types of intermediates one was short where the shaft is basically the bell housing then there was a longer round housing where the shaft is longer this housing bolts to the bell housing and the transom housing
I have seen fords and Chevys with both of these

that part number is for a duo prop and is no longer available but they have a replacement part you may need to get a new shaft for that housing not sure a DP will work on a 280

Red Donzi - Do you have an extension bolted to the back of the bellhousing?
I have one of those and remember having to swap around yokes as well. I may have an extra in the pile of junk in the shed.
