    Picked up a Globe Run Dry #1000 for the Alpha

    machinist ,bore it deeper,ream it bigger, and lap it to a fine finish

    You can get 5 yrs easy on these. Marketing say fewer, thats all. I got 20yrs/1800hrs on my first Alpha one, it did not failed, just set and lost some flow..

    At my marina they have recommended to change after 3 years in fresh and 2 years in salt. I do plan to change mine this year. I changed the impeller in my 75HP Merc outboard last year; not sure how many years it had been because I've owned her for 3. My guess is that it was many more years than 5, the wear plate was shot...

    Of course the marina will tell you to change these things all the time but you do not need to. I have never gotten less than 5 yrs, usually more, more like 10 and i have never had one fail and left me stuck.

    My FIL's Yamaha is going on 12 years with the OEM impeller.

    I will be changing this year........I think.
