    Impeller Replacement 101

Warm up impeller first in hot water and keep everything lubed with antifreeze as you work. Push impeller in while you loosen hose clamp. Use any tool that will work to turn impeller as you remove old one and fully seat new one:

    Great idea Carl.
I just did mine the old fashion way...Vaseline and elbow grease.

Will Vaseline break down the rubber? (Pun not intended but I'm going with it.)

Vaseline is safe on rubber. I was a transmission mechanic for 20 years and vaseline is used in the rebuild on all rubber parts because it melts instantly into the trans fluid, no blobs like grease. It's probably fine to use on an impeller but maybe not because there is no oil flowing through there to wash it out. That's why I use antifreeze. This is an easy method I came up with after struggling with these things for years.

You skipped the hardest part..getting the damn thing lined up again and getting the bolts in. It is a nightmare as the shaft is off center and therefore screws up the bolt alignament. The whole process is a nightmare..such a horrible design..
I usually do it under running hot water. Hot water certainly helps..

I upgraded my Jabsco with a run dry impeller. I think I'll do the same with my Alpha

I often look at a job and rate it in terms of 6 packs or multiples thereof

I use white lithium grease but never thought about vaseline.

With a crank driven pump, it's about 5X easier.
    No 6 packs required.

Come to think of it, I doubt that alcohol is a very good lubricant....

I like the dish soap idea best but antifreeze has worked for me.

    want to change mine?

    I've been avoiding this task.
My impeller is now 3 years old.
Do I need to change it?
    Thank you, Patrick
