I'm sure there's someone out there that can answer my question, I have been told that the Mercury V6 outboard CLE gear case will fit onto a Mercrusier leg, does anybody know if that would be an alpha leg or a Bravo leg ?

Alpha with using the I/O vertical shaft.

Thanks MOP, I've been offered one , it was just that the guy new it had been fitted to a mercruiser but didn't know what model, does anybody know if there would be any real advantage fitting one of these gear cases over the standard one?

Looks like they have a 1.87:1 gear ratio. You also need to consider what props "pitch and Dia" are available for it
machinist ,bore it deeper,ream it bigger, and lap it to a fine finish
