    Cig 20 Resto Project

I found this 1974 Cig 20 in Minneapolis spring 2011 and bought it with the intentions of restoring it someday. It had set for 3+ years but was still in decent shape, so I ran it like it was for a couple years. Early fall 2012 we bought our lakehouse at LOTO at the 41MM and got the dock and lift all set to take the Cig. Spring 2013 I took it out of storage and was all ready to pull it to its new home at the 41, but found one tie-down eye had started to pull through the transom…. Yes, rotted transom. It was time to start the project.

I wanted to keep a lot of the classic theme, but update with modern power and rigging. Engine is a Merc 383 Mag Stroker through Bravo 1.

Ended up taking it to Performance Boat Center at LOTO to let them take the lead.

A quick breakdown to give credit….
    De-rig – PBC
Transom and engine hatch glass work – Paint Rite in Camdenton
    Re-rig – PBC
Found bad stringers (why not done with the transom?… long story)
Stringer replacement – Big Boys Fiberglass Repair in Camdenton (great experience)
Hatch Paint and Final Rigging – PBC
Teak gauge panels and teak stripes – me

Huge thanks to Andy at PBC for all the rigging and set-up and for responding to my countless texts and emails.

Time to test some props and maybe think about paint and interior next.

    Dash. Before, during and after.

Completely gutted all rigging and ran all new wiring, control cables and steering.

Getting the old dash panel off was a huge PIA. Cig glued it and used 22 screws then drilled for all gauges. Needless to say, it came off in splinters. I wanted to keep all the original gauge layout. PBC made a template and I fabbed the new panel back home in a friend's shop. New panel fit perfectly!

A previous owner cut into the engine hatch and added the scoop . I took it back to the original flat hatch style. It affected the x-dimension, but I wanted to keep the classic lines. Andy tells me a shorty is in my future!

Very nice Cig with a great color! After you run it for a while, you might want to get a set of tabs. What props are you going to be trying on the Bravo drive?

1985 Eliminator 23' Daytona Offshore - Kevlar hull
1988 23' Donzi CC F-23 with 250HP EFI Mercury OB

Tabs, maybe. Seems to run out fine with very little bow rise. Where we run at LOTO there's less traffic (rough water).
Tried a 25P Mirage Plus but was heavy loaded when I first ran it. And it seemed a bit tall. I want to try my 23P Mirage next.

Beautiful little beast . Cig 20's are so cool .

I'm glad you took care of the engine hatch the way you did . It's exactly what I would have done. I'm not a big fan of the huge , raised engine lid.
Just because something's old doesn't mean you throw it away !

Beautiful work! Love the color, and love the dash! I will say; however, I have to agree that tabs are probably a wise decision. I couldn't imagine running mine without them!

Its nice to see a project started and completed in a timely manner. All too common for people to get jerked around by repair shops these days. Great looking finished product !

Nice job...glad to see you returned the hatch to original!

I used to see that boat around the Lake Minnetonka area 25-30 years ago...
