SOLD! - 1967 Donzi Ski Sporter

    For Sale

I've had 8 wonderful summers with this boat and it is time for me to move on. Anyone looking for a great old Donzi should consider this one. A great ride for the 50th Birthday of Donzi Marine!

    1967 Donzi Ski Sporter
    302 Ford (original 289 replaced in 1991), freshened/warmed in 2002.
Volvo AQ200 upper/250 lower (original lower replaced in 2008)

Hull 420, built spring of 1967. A real time capsule, original manuals, original 1967 catalog (signed by co-designer Walt Walters in 2010!), original price sheet, decades of original hand written service notes. This is a 5 owner, well documented FRESH WATER boat. Originally from the midwest, it has resided on Lake George for the past 8 years. Boathouse kept. Believed NEVER in salt.

Expertly, professionally and sympathetically maintained with an open checkbook by Performance Marine in Bolton Landing, NY www.perfmar.com . Many receipts available. Since 2006, work includes: new gauges, new wiring, rebuild tilt, rebuild/replace original Volvo 200 lower w/ Volvo 250 lower, new shift cone, mufflers added, Bilt-Rite carpet, repro shift knob, all regular maintenance etc...Many props including a 24" Ultra LH.

New Performance Custom trailer - 2009

    New coque-pit cover - 2010

NOS Bilt-Rite L-seat and seat backs in 2012 (impossible to get!!)

This is a well documented early Ski Sporter w/ all original hardware including difficult to find slotted steering wheel, original factory windshield and the original chrome rear view mirror. Boat is well known by Donzi enthusiasts and has received several awards from the Lake George Donzi Classic Club including Best Original Donzi at the Club's 2010 Dust-Off.

Reluctantly for sale to make room for another Donzi. 2014 is the 50th Birthday of Donzi Marine, run it on Lake George at the 2014 Dust-off in June and trailer it home anywhere!

A wonderful old boat. Boat is in extremely good shape and shows very well - just some honest patina and as a classic car friend says - patina is the new black! This boat is the talk of the docks wherever it goes. Classic Fiberglass is beginning to get some respect in the collectible boat market and this is a true Golden Age, Iconic, Summer of '67, Hendrix, LBJ classic!

    Jay, I'll give it a plug ...

Thanks for the rides at Lake George a few years ago. This is one extremely nice , unmolested piece of history. A beautiful little boat that has been taken care of in every way.

    Good luck with the sale.

    Thanks Lenny!
(I think you'll like the new boat too! I hope you make it east this year)

As many of you know, we had a '67 Ski Sporter on Lake George when I was a boy.
The Red boat is like a time machine!
Anyone who had a fun, formative Donzi ride as a kid will be transported by this boat!!!!

This is one of the cleanest, best looking Donzis out there. Best of luck with the sale Jay, what's going in its spot?

    Trevor-

My guess is that seat is 1990's Donzi OEM. Not sure if it's any different from what they currently use.
Unfortunately the original style helm is long gone......

    Rocky -

Thanks for the kind words. It's a great boat. I hope it goes to someone who appreciates its pedigree and provenance.
I've had a blast with it.

Almost ready to go public w/ the new boat.
    You'll like it, Jason does!

A few people have requested engine photos.

I don't really have any recent ones. But I found one from about ten years ago when Tony had the engine rebuilt. I have some specs if anyone cares: Roush, Edelbrock, Crane, Miloden, TRW, Eagle, Melling, Moly, cleavite etc....
It still looks like this although the Ford blue has faded a little. If I were an engine bling guy, and I'm not, I might go for powder coating or some stainless. But that's for the next owner.

It runs great, supposedly 300 HP and I have no reason to doubt it. It spins the 24" Ultra over 5k no problem.
And it sounds great, a little different from an SBC, more mids, a little ballsier, like a cranked up Marshall Amp

Jay, I just had to comment on what a beautiful boat that you have for sale. I love the Lucan Red and have admired this boat for quite a while every time I would see a picture of it here on this site. If I were not so heavy into some boat inventory right now, I would be all over this. If anyone out there is snivelling about $, stop to think this through. Everyone thinks they can buy a bargain boat that needs a little bit of this, a little bit of that. It always costs you a lot more in the long run to right those little bit of this and little bits of that! Just buy somnething that is right and stand up to the plate. (Buy it right the first time and you will have no regrets) I would hate to think of how many boats I have bought over the years and tallied up how much extra that I had to put into it to make it right, let alone the time it took to get them that way. Jay, I think your boat is RIGHT!

I must say, Jay, that your boat is gorgeous!

All of the improvements are top-notch, the interior and trailer look beautiful, and the instrument panel, exhaust tips, and cockpit cover are awesome. As the previous poster noted, whoever purchases this boat will be getting one of the finest early Ski Sporters out there. And, one that needs absolutely nothing - except the continued appreciation of its new owner.

For anybody considering this boat, it would behoove you to call Jay for a discussion. You will be getting exactly what he describes, with terms and conditions that benefit you both. Speaking from personal experience, Jay is one of the most honest, thoughtful, and family-first persons I have ever known.

Best of luck with the sale!

Just my .02, which in this economy, is only worth .01, and actually is less than that since my original .02 isn't really worth .02.
