    Distributor gear

I am switching out motors in my boat and going from a non roller to roller camshaft. I plan on re using my delco voyager ignition. Do i need to do anything with the gear ? Thanks in advance.

    John,

I have new senders if you still want one. Give me a call sometime.

    Question ? for Jim

Can you explain the differences/pros & con between the melonized and bronze gears. Some speak about using bronze to protect the cams gear.

When I used to drag race the bronze gears wore out pretty quickly, but it could have been I was young and never checked gear depth.
I used to change the gear once a year.
Last year, I put a Comp retro-fit roller in my sbc, with an MSD distributor. Comp tech said to leave the gear as it was, the standard MSD mystery metal gear. MSD said no problem, just be sure to use the special break in lube provided.
Could be they're in cahoots to sell cams and gears!

The 572 engines that I got out of a 35' Cigarette Mistress came with solid lift roller cams and bronze gears on the distributors. The bronze gears were almost entirely worn out with ostensibly 80 hours running time. Bill

Thanks for the info. The gear on there now is not bronze. It kinda almost looks like a bare aluminium color. I will give u a ring tomorrow Bob and thanks !

We use Comp cams composite gears in our solid roller 540 street motors. They hold up very well to abuse, little pricey at 100 bucks, but well worth it since you can't get out and walk on water
