    Fall Special...1996 22' Donzi Classic

    EDIT: BOAT IS SOLD.

I considered selling my boat all summer, but never totally committed. Then, recently, the 97 year-old farm/barn owner where I store it passed away, leaving my winter storage plans in limbo. I'm taking that as a sign that it really is time to sell!

The boat is in good shape, runs strong, and has relatively low hours. It has a Volvo 7.4Gsi package, including the DPX outdrive with internal hydraulic steering. The engine produces 385 propshaft horsepower, and has been meticulously maintained. This combination produces great thrust at all ranges...with handling that is a true ride on rails experience.

I'll be winterizing it soon, so contact me to discuss the fall price - $22,000.
If it doesn't sell I'll re-list it in the spring with a higher price.

Having been fortunate enough to purchase Tony's previous Donzi, I can only attest that he is a meticulous owner and a straight shooter.

This is a rare, reliable and desirable boat and I'm sure it's even nicer than it looks.

Good luck with the sale and Hi to the family.

The boat and I are in mid-Michigan.
Come on up and I'll take you for a fall color cruise.

Thanks for the positive words, Jay!

Greg, it is an absolute gem to pilot. I can, literally, take my hands off the helm at any speed and the boat tracks straight and true. Without any torque steer, I can give all my attention to trim and tabs.

Nope, Bill, not at this time.

We've got a daughter (plus a granddaughter and another one upcoming) in Virginia Beach, and a son in Seattle - so traveling will be supplanting boating on our spare time list.

That is what I expected to hear Tony, very cool. Have you ever gotten a feel for how many 22's were equipped with that drive? It must have been an expensive upgrade option back in 1996. Here are used prices.

(Regarding the outdrive list above, the DPX does not appear. Confusing as it is, the XDP is not the same as the DPX!)

Greg, there is one other Volvo DPX setup that I know of.
It's up in Canada, and has shown up at the Lake Muskoka gatherings.

Regarding the up-charge when new, Forest Coile once told me that it was a $10k option at the time.

The thread below discusses the DPX outdrive, including the description from Volvo as it was first introduced:

I have exactly the same package(385 HP, VOLVO DPX drive with E-4 props) but in a 2000-22'C.

I can attest to everything that Tony has said about his 22'Classic. They DO run like they are on rails, there is ABSOLUTELY no torque steer and I have taken both hands off the wheel at 65 MPH.

The guy that I bought mine from in Florida about 5 years ago told me that the Volve DPX drive was about a $3000. upgrade over the Mercury drive and was about 4 MPH faster than a 385 HP Mercury. I can't confirm the speed because I haven't run with 385 HP Mercury.

One thing that Tony didn't mention was that Volvo claim that the DPX drive is good for 600 HP. So, for anyone that 72.8 GPS MPH ain't fast enough... put $8K+/- in the engine and for $30K you would have an 80 MPH 22'C. Not too shabby.

Tony... it's too bad that you were never able to come to any of the Muskoka events... I could have shown you where Stevie 'Y' hangs his helmet in the summer.

Good Luck with the sale and if I didn't already have one... I'd be all over this one like a little fat guy on an Oreo.

    Dave.

BTW... I wouldn't be selling mine for $22K on a nice trailer!!
