    Power Steering Cooler

I noticed oil in the bilge and after looking things over I discovered my power steering cooler leaking down the back of the motor and into the bilge. Checked the power steering pump and its low so what I’m seeing is definitely coming from the power steering system. Question when I was putting this motor together I wondered why the power steering is cooled in the first place? Automobile under hood temperatures get higher than our engine compartments and I’m considering not replacing it and install a bypass, any thoughts?

True the temps are higher in a car but not sustained like in a boat, once moving there is good air flow under a cars hood. On our boats the heat builds up and does not dissipate near as much, cheaper to install another cooler than a pump.

    Bobby,

Seems it should be an easy fix. If the cooler has a leak, take it out and have it re-braised, or check/replace line if that is the cause. I would not remove it all together.
