    1968 16' bravo/alpha conversion

    hows it going guys.

i havent been on the forums for a while. Basically i gained interest again in resoring my donzi. right now i have a volvo 270 outdrive with a 400ci SBC and im looking to convert to a bravo one. Im just trying to get an idea of what parts i need to buy. someone was telling me they make an volvo to bravo adapter plate? im not really too sure. i would highly appreciate a response and will post pictures upon request. if you guys know anyone selling a bravo assembly let me know.

    Thank you so much,

    -Erik

Erik, If you are interested in letting your 270 Drive go when you go with the Merc, let me know as I would be interested to have a spare...

IMO stick with the Volvo! If not consider an Alpha it steals a lot less HP than a Bravo, A Bravo steals a little 2 MPH over an Alpha. There are a ton of guys running Alpha's with decent HP in larger boats, there are quite a few 22's with BB Alpha setups. Another point is is far cheaper to replace an Alpha if you do puke it, you can get an SE drive with a 3 year warranty for cheap $$$.

The advantages of loosing a Volvo for a Merc ...

    a)Wider service network
    b)Parts more easily available
    c)Comparitively wide selection of props.

If you've had your 16 for a significant length of time you're going to be surprised how often you're going to need 'a' and 'b' after the switch in relation to the Volvo 270
Just because something's old doesn't mean you throw it away !

+1 on that Steve, nothing like an 25-30 year reliable Volvo.

Or a 46 year old Volvo! Try and keep it as original as you can for as long as you can. My.02

    Erik,
A friend of mine has one of the converter plates, but he is holding on to it. I believe this is what you are after. You can call them to make sure. Bill

I almost forgot that I made one out of 1/2" aluminum and painted it with black Imron using ss button head bolts on my 1985 Eliminator. I had the Bravo hole cut by a plasma cutter after I marked it for them. It has worked perfectly! I don't think it cost but about $200 to make. Bill

Looks like you made it much larger than the volvo hole so you would have solid transon to bolt thru. Looks great, great idea.
