I have 73 18 with a morse single lever control and a 270 Volvo. I cannot get the shifter off boat. I removed the handle and the obvious 3 screws but it doesn't come apart. Any help is appreciated. Ralph 248-666-4250

When did you get a 1973 18?
I don’t remember how to get them out. I do remember them being a real pain, because unless there is a hole cut in the cockpit tub, they are very hard to reach.

Have the cables and the flanges they attach to been removed?

It's being held in by the throttle and shifter cables. Here's a picture Matty posted in his thread.

Reach around behind the port bulkhead and disconnect them. A 7/16" wrench will do the job. You have to be careful to get the shifter keeper back on the way it came off. The throw is adjustable.
There are also two clips at the bottom of the bracket that hold the cable jackets. They look the same as the one on the engine throttle bracket. Make sure you unclip them.
