Fastest Sweet 16 or ski sporter around??

Just wondering who's got the fastest 16' Donzi around, and/or whos got them topping 60 or 70mph and what their combos are. Pumping one hp/Cubic inch out of the ford small block is easy, just wondering what kind of power/mph ratios people are seeing.

I even did a search....not sure how I missed that thread...I'd still love to hear more about their combos (more detail - engine mods, hp ratings etc.)

do a search on younger, sweet cheekz, rootsy, magic bill , just sayn20 re power in progress , they all have good running 16s and cover the gambit of just about every type of power combo from ford volvo to chevy black hawk. also do a search on a blown 16 there was one back a few years that ran in winnie and would not let the bigger Donzi run away and hide from it .

get a shorty add power seems to be the recipe for getting a 16 up and running fast.

    here's rootsy

    From memory.

Rootsy had a 415-ish hp engine he built. Mercruiser Alpha S/S (shorty). He hit 80 mph.

Parnell has an amazing 16. Just over 500 hp, Mercruiser Alpha S/S. He hit 80.

Younger had a 400+ hp SBC hooked to a Blackhawk (Mercury's short lived surface piercing outdrive with counter-rotating props). He ran mid-80s, but wisely admitted he ran out of driver before he ran out of power.

Ed Donnely, way back when, had a twin-turbo'd engine (don't know the hp) connected to a Volvo e-drive. He had modified the boat to have a pad bottom. It ran over 100 mph.

Magical Bill has a 400+ SBF hooked to an older Volvo (250 or 270 maybe) that runs over 70.

I have a 440 hp SBC connected to a Volvo 290 w/trim that hasn't gotten wet yet, so I don't know how fast it will be. I didn't build it for top speed anyway. The Volvo 270/280/290 are very robust drives, but are also very inefficient. I wanted to be able to effortlessly cruise at 45 - 50 mph. I will speculate that my boat will run 72, but probably won't know until next season.

The 16 classic are awesome boats, but the same power/drive will be about 3+ mph FASTER in an 18 Classic. I have owned both. One of my 18s had a 120 Nitrous shot. The 16 is much more like sitting on a surfboard, rather than sitting in a boat. But can they make you smile . . .!

If you look on the video section you will find youngers 16 taged as Muskokas 16 with a blackhawk.his boat is very fast but with that set up he had, was to much motor.the conditions would have to be perfect to run at 84 and hold it,he couldn't.Not trying to say anything bad about his boat.i ran with younger and i also have a donzi18 with a blackhawk and i run a bit slower at 75mlp but can run a lot longer at those speeds. This was the best thing i did for my boat changing it to a blackhawk and a 383 at 385hp.I wish I had a bit more hp like 450hp but i do hope to raise the X in the future and sorry to say this but in this case that inch could make a big difference. lol.thanks craig

I know you asked about a 16, but...

The fastest Donzi, probably the fastest boat I ever saw run was an 18X.
His name was George and he had an Arneson bolted to a 900+HP 430+cube small block.
Sick boat that went like 115mph...
    Thank you, Patrick

After the installation of a set of Arneson Rocker Plates the top number jumped to I believe 124.

Nothing mythical, just had fun wrenching on the old Donzi and hanging out with people who shared same interests. Miss those days, but enjoy these day with family even more. Take Care. Happy Holidays
