    350 Rocker Studs - Torque and Sealant ???

    All,

    Replacing the "pressed-in" rocker studs to screw in (as the pressed in ones keep "creeping " out) due to new cam, lifters, rockers, etc.... I have a set of Mr. Gasket screw in studs and wondering if;

    1. What the torque spec is for screwing into the head (they have a "shoulder" on them).
    2. Is any sealant / loctite required.

    Thanks,

    DTM

    Pressed in studs i had 1965 gto heads that a machine shop drilled and pinned the studs , so they wouldn't pull out.

    Hmmm...I'll have to check with my machinist on torque value. And yeah, you do need some sealant. Anything will work. I'm partial to Permatex Aviation.
    But you do know that you just can't take out the pressed-in studs and drill and tap and install the screw-ins, right?
    The bosses need to be machined flat, to some spec I'll have to find out.
    Going to see him today...I'll get back to you.
    Also, there are a style of screw-ins that don't require machining. There is no hex, only a small shoulder thingy. They get screwed in using a stud puller/installer.
    I had these on my old heads.
    The hex type, without the proper machining, will hit the rockers when all is snugged up.

    Update: They were all at lunch when I went to shop. I'll find out next week.
