I have a 1997 22 and I love it! We have 4 other high preformance boats, two of which have duo-props. They both ride great, and grab the water like hell! Does anyone have it on a 22? How do you like it?

Tony should chime in, he has very nice 22 dou with the big Volvo package, he has been very happy with it.

I have a 2000 22' Classic with a 454-385HP Volvo DPX E4 series props. It has integrated hydraulic steering and rides like its on rails. No torque steer... you can take your hands off the wheel at 65MPH. Runs just over 70 MPH(GPS) maybe a little more with more chop and less fuel. Volvo advertise that the drive is good for 600HP(mine is still 385). Love it!!
I have 84 18 and put a blackhawk on 2years ago and will never go back to anything but dualprops.my boat has A 383 pushing 380hp and running 27 p at 80mlp bought a set of 31 but to big for now till the procharger goes on.im looking at a set of 29 for this year for the Muskokas weekend.these drives rock for speed.

Yup, this description also fits my boat exactly...same performance, same handling.
As long as I never have to replace the props, I am totally happy with this setup!

Wow, thanks guys!
Although not a 22 , here's my (boring ) story again .
After the complete resto , I repowered my St Tropez with the Volvo single prop engine package that was the equivalent of the Merc 350mag.
After running a 351W Alpha package for years I was expecting fantastic things. Instead I was horrified at the monster that it had become. The boat was virtually undriveable. Knowing of all the fixes that are possible with prop changes I worked with Grizz (bless him) and tried the prop that he sent over as his most recommended fix. No better at all !
I bit the bullet and changed the unit out for a DP. I took a total bath on the entire exercise but the boat is now completely different and totally driveable.
And still very quick ..maybe even faster.
A few people that I would consider very boat knowledgeable commented that it looked like overkill, and I admit that previously I would never have thought of a 19 footer needing a DP but now I'm more convinced than ever that these little boats of ours can benefit immensely from them . They might actually even need them.
Just because something's old doesn't mean you throw it away !
Up until a year ago I was running a similar set up on my 18 2+3. It was the VP 5.7 GSi with 1.43:1 SX drive and I also worked with Big Grizz to improve overall performance and handling so my wife could drive the boat. Same result mainly due to the 350 was not able to turn the prop past 4200 rpm. What prop did he recommend you try?
I think the original prop was a 14.25x21 Volvo aluminium one. My drive was the newer SX-A and had the 1.51:1 ratio , I believe.
There wasn't an issue pulling engine RPMs , the boat was just outright nasty ,unpleasant , horrible , uncontrollable and didn't inspire me to even want to use it !
It's a completely different animal now though . If you ever get a chance to do an outright swap on the unit to a d/p (and it's dead simple) you should try it.
I bet you'd want to leave it on. The difference is just amazing.
If I recall correctly , the prop Grizz sent was a Turbo 14.25X21 .

Was it much of an improvement over the original Alpha drive based upon memory?
Thanks for the information DP is not in the plans moving forward however Grizz sent me the Turbo Vector Series 14.5 x 23L and I plan on trying with the new 406.
*tmh*

Taking in the possible scope of your question there could be way too much to answer that you're not looking for.
I went from an old 4bbl 351 that I loved with an early Alpha1 that I hated in a (then) 24 year old boat that needed a resto that included beefing up and straightening out the bottom.
With that package though , it was a 50MPH boat without any handling issues.
Complete rebuild and re-power later and it went to an over 60mph boat that was a nightmare with the single prop SX-A.
BUT it now had all the latest electronics on the engine along with MPI. The new SX units are reportedly more hydrodynamic than anything out there plus you now have smooth cone clutch shifting unlike the old Alphas.
So to sort of answer the question , once I ditched the SX-A and put on the DPS-A it was a massive quantum leap over the Alpha .
