small single axel trailer for a classic 22?

Hey folks,any thoughts on the practicality of either modifying or building a small single axle trailer to work as a shuttle from my garage to the neighborhood boat ramp a short block away? I have a nice tandem axle aluminum trailer however, although I have a very large garage I don't think the trailer will make the turn from my driveway to get into the garage....so thinking either wheel dollys under the trailer and then a motorized trailer dolly or a very small trailer/cradle that I can maneuver a bit more easily back and forth to the ramp.Anyone?Cheers,Jay

Tidbart has a single axle under his 22. it's pretty kick butt.

I'd think if it is just a temporary solution... take the two axles off your trailer and replace with a beefier single?

Or, just a better method to stick it in... golf cart, riding mower, or motorized dolly like you said.

Also I wonder if there is a way to load the suspension on one of the axles to raise the tires up just long enough to get it in the garage, then drop it?

BTW, have you thought about a front hitch on your tow vehicle, or removing the rear wheels?
They'll hold up just fine for what you're describing.

A thought years back I did a lot of home delivery of boats, my truck was equipped with a front hitch. It allowed me to get boats into some extremely tight spots in peoples yard, the maneuverability is unbelievable both getting and out.

I'll agree with everything said so far - no reason you can't use a single axle trailer on a 22. Sure the tandom is nice on the road, but singles are more than up to the job if spec'ed right.

Next question: how big is your yard and don't you need a big riding lawn tractor to mow it? If you have resonbly flat drive, a little square tubing and some creative welding should result in a very manuverable trailer mover.

Good excuse to get a 4wheeler aka tow vehicle slap an orange diamond on it and get to the ramp.

A 4 wheeler would never tow it up the ramp. I used mine to tow my 13' Whaler and that is about it.

What's the reason for the long tongue. Lot of distance btw trailer ball hitch and bow or winch? (Maybe its just my eye's)

Never really thought of it as a long distance. Plenty of room to hop over it, this comes in handy when the garage door is closed.

Very nice trailer...

Since I bought my little Sea Hunt with a single axle trailer (with a removable tongue, YES!), I have become a single axle convert. Much easier to move around than the tandem I have under the Donzi. If they are built and set up right, I love 'em!

I think I'd seriously entertain the idea of a front hitch.
It can turn the world on its head.
Think about how maneuverable a fork lift is.

-borrowed a friend's truck with a front hitch and I was able to get the Donzi in the garage -just barely. It was a tight squeeze! I think see an electric trailer mover in my future. -I may borrow a friends' 4-wheeler first to see if it is up to the job but will probably go with something from powermoverinc.org ...most likely the AC6.
