    VP Raw Water Pump

I plan on reusing the original that looks (to me) near new bronze sea water pump that has just over 200 hours on it. It’s going to need a new impeller but all hardware and brackets are good to go. The bore and back plate show no wear as well as no sign of scoring or any other wear. I believe the new impeller will be the first change out. I was surprised to see what looks like a rubber o-ring on the shaft half way between the pump and pulley is this normal? Otherwise everything else looks good solid bronze with the brand new impeller should be ready to go.

I have seen Orings on a few exposed shaft pumps, it is a slinger to keep water from traveling along the shaft and running the bearings.
