Awesome ride! Does it have the TRS speedmaster drives on it now or something newer? Bill

Very cool! I didn't know the Pearl was the old Slapshot. So what year is the hull? Great pics. I assume you have seen these posted before.

The PEARL was also JUMPIN JACK for a short time after it was Slap Shot.. Back in the day I saw the SLAP SHOT testing on lake St Clair, I was in my 16' Donzi what a sight.

The VIN # on the Pearl ends with 70. She has a pair of 900 horse blower motors with a set of #4s on boxes.

Were the staggered engine setups rare in the 70s like I am thinking? You must have some stout trannies or crash boxes- BAMs? Bill

I was thinking the same thing...I can't remember seeing another stagger setup from 1970. There is an old 36 or 38 cig raceboat out east at a shop I've seen that has staggered cutouts but looks more like 78' - 80' vintage.

Most APBA open class race boats were staggered back in the early 70's. I started racing in 1973 and they were all that way. By 1976 many S,M, & P class boats were starting to run staggered engine packages.

Out of curiosity, do you know what HP the Hubers are rated? I believe the BW Velvet drives can be built to 1300HP or so. In fact I am thinking about getting a pair of them for my 36' Cigarette. Do you happen to know the size difference? Bill

Same trans with more foreward plates. I think ours are rated at 1000hp.

Bill back in 1993 APBA tried to slow us down with our Eastern Express Skater cat by having us remove our crash box's. They said we had to have a transmision, we bought BW Velvet drive Huber transmisions. The transmisions did not hurt us a bit. After that it was easy to dock it. We ran at least 15 races that way with no problems. I would think the Hubers today are even better now. Mark
