Anyone running a burgee?

If so where did you mount it? Pics? I am thinking one of those red Donzi burgees might look nice on my red 22C but not sure if it should be on the bow or stern. I'm thinking stern but not sure what type of mast to use, etc.

Generally triangular in shape although sometimes swallow-tailed, the yacht club burgee may be flown by day only, or day and night, as determined by the individual yacht club. It is flown from the bow staff of mastless and single-masted motorboats, at the foremost masthead of vessels with two or more masts, and the main masthead of ketches and yawls. The burgee may be flown while underway (but not racing) and at anchor. You may substitute the owner's private signal for the burgee on single-masted yachts without bow staff, when the boat is underway.

Who is selling these small Donzi burgee bow flags ?
The only Donzi burgee I saw online are the much later, & very large, red square 18"X12" Donzi "Z" style.
This is more of a flag than the traditional much smaller triangular, or twin swallow tail bow burgee.
I am looking for a smaller triangular, or twin swallow tail, style burgee.

There are several types of bow-style burgee flagstaff sockets on the marine market in both chrome plated bronze and Stainless steel..
Several are semi-flush in-deck mounted in both straight & aft angled types.
There is also the traditional deck surface mounted style in straight & aft angled styles.
Most use a small mahogany , or teak, flagstaff to fly the burgee on the bow deck just behind the bow navigation light..

Also some bow lights themselves have built-in burgee flagstaff sockets or small stainless steel burgee flagstaffs built right in the top of the bow navigation light.

Century, Chris~Craft, Hacker, Garwood, Lyman, etc. boats always came with such a flagstaff & burgee mount when deliverd new ; along with a custom burgee with the boat company name & logos.

I still have Dad's old original 1962 22' Lyman's burgee & mahogany flagstaff.

I want a small Donzi Burgee also for my project~

here's one, we have another member with a 2003 or 2004 22 classic with all teak accents including the floor and a burgee came from the factory like that. looking for pics

Matty, the boat you're talking about was delivered through Boats By George and I'm 99% sure it was an '03. It was fully custom and I spent a lot of time working with the customer on it (the good old days). I just spoke to him about a month ago. Everything on that boat, from hullside color to teak floor, gauges, steering wheel and hardware, was all installed as per the customer's specifications. The burgee staff was customer-supplied and factory-installed. I think he had it custom made, if I recall correctly. He was flying a family crest, and not a Donzi pennant.

They were from 05 or 06 fall picnic.

if you go to the larger boat shows they usually have a booth that makes custom flags,pennants,banners. the martini glass with the boat name that kinda thing they will do cutom stuff but the artwork setup is usually expensive if they don't have it at hand.

I'm thinking the Stars and Stripes flag is flown only on the stern, not the bow.
The bow, or mast, is reserved for flying the Stars and Stripes on a visiting yacht, while their national flag is flown on the stern.

Of course, I've slept since I've read about that sort of stuff.

In addition to flying an officially sanctioned Yacht Club burgee it is also considered correct to fly the owner's own custom burgee.

In the mid 1960s we used to rent a boat slip to a podiatrist, (Foot specialist) & Ocean City Yacht Club member, old Doc. Forsythe .
His wife made him a custom burgee for the bow of his then brand new 28 ' Pacemaker Allglass flybridge sport fisherman .

The Allglass was one of the very first larger all-fiberglass boats to ever be produced p to this time 1960s time period.

The Doc's unusual custom burgee was triangular & bright green with a BIG flying bandaged half bare & bloody foot sewn on both sides .
It was the funniest personal burgee I had ever seen.
You might imagine that the Doc. was very well known all over Ocean City NJ for his special custom burgee boat flag.
Sadly it was also the brunt of many jokes , behind his back, with his fellow yacht club crowd .

Most burgee flags in that time period were the Yacht Club variety.
Members also had front licence plates on their cars with the same red & white triangular OCYC burgee painted on them; as well as OCYC sticker decals on their trunk decklids.

The other popular burgees in the 50s, 60s, 70s, were the Chris~Craft, Century, Hacker, Garwood, Lyman, etc. boat brand burgees supplied when new with these wooden boats.

On the stern pole flagstaff was always flown the US Flag, or as an alternate the US Yacht Ensign (With Anchor & 13 stars) , or the US Power Squadron, or Coast Guard Aux, Ensigns .

Sadly you don't see many burgees flown on the bow of many boats these days.
It seems to be an almost lost old yachting tradition.

I know the US flag is stern. I know other burgees can be flown on the bow. I do NOT want to drill anything on my boat so I was thinking of something that would clamp to my lifting eye. I do not want to waste my time to make a clamp if it might block my view. So I was thinking stern. Again something off my lifting eye, tow ring, or as always I can clip to my stern light. That however looks kinda cheesey. I have a nice US flag on a mahogany staff that I might be able to fit both on. I believe the US flag flies on top or am I wrong?

Biggie, not sure if you were addressing me or Silverghost. For my money, I would only fly the Stars and Stripes astern. And I would only have a triangular or swallowtail burgree (nothing rectangular), and I would fly it from the bow. Besides being rectangular, the Donzi flag in the link you posted looks awfully big to me. FWIW. A burgee for a 22 foot boat seems like it should be 8 inches high at the most. 6 feels more like it.

The old triangular shaped twin swallow tail burgee which I kept from my Dad's old 1962 22' Lyman measures
9" high X 15" long .
His mahogany flagstaff measures 17" with a turned down 3/4" socket insert.

Just an idea~
If you don't wish to cut any new holes in your deck you might want to look for a new Stainless Steel bow light which has a burgee staff socket hole in it's top for a small 3/4" wooden burgee flag staff.
These bow lights & matching mahogany, or teak, flagstaffs are all over the web at marine supply houses.
Keep your old bow light for future use; or if you ever decide to sell your boat.
Make up a Stainless Steel, or 1/4" aluminum, adapter base plate to match the new light with the old bow light's deck mounting holes.

Good idea being I have to remove my bowlight anyway. Those darn Perkos will bend so easily if you tug on the cover. Now my light has a 1/4" gap in the front and I have to remove the lens to straighten it. I think I will just stick to my stars & stripes.

PS...if you do mount 2 flags on a pole the stars & stripes is always on top.
