    Beefing up an Alpha

Looking at a 18 with supposedly "beefed" up alpha. Are there Mercury or aftermarket parts available that can be used when rebuilding an Alpha and trans assy that can make it stronger? Does an SS make it stronger? Is one better off simply pulling the Alpha and replacing with a used Bravo setup. Opinions please. Is more cost effective to beef up the alpha or replace with a Bravo?

Alphas can handle 400+ if you are carefull. They are also a 1-2 mph faster than a B1. If you are not going to be crazy driver then beef up the Alpha. If not replant the drive.

Alphas are way cheaper to replace if you do break one!

With SEI you now have a 3year window. They seem to hold up well but not sure if you can get the beefy 1.32 ratio or not. My bud tried putting 500+ behind one even though I warned him. He never blew it up but the gear would actually slide on the shaft and basically you got stuck in forward and needed to pull it apart. He tried the SEI which lasted longer but....
