    hull and engine id help please!

    hi all,
    i'm new here and have just bought my first donzi.
    it is a 25ft regazza and old but everyone has to start somewhere!

    i was wondering if anyone here can help with more info? the hull is:
    DMR R D 040L788

    the engine serial number is:
    5909091 (5.7 mercruiser)

    from what i can find online i believe this engine is '82? can anyone please confirm this?

    the boat has quite a few skin fittings and i was hoping if anyone can explain them? i can't chase them to the inside of the hull as there is no access.

    there is a large well between the front seats which has a hole straight to the bilge? is this correct or should i glass over this?

    i would apreciate any help anyone can give

    regards
    ryan

    The boat was built July of 88, can't run the engine numbers tonight. If I remember will do it at the shop tomorrow. Should be some letters ahead of the number!!!!

    Thankyou very much Phil!

    Do the letters mean anything on the hull number?

    Unless the 5 is an S there are no letters in the engines serial number.

    Usually the Merc serial numbers run 0Bxxxxxx, 0Cxxxxxx, 0Dxxxxxx,.....

    Zero, Letter, 6 numbers.

    He is looking at the number on the transom assembly most likely. Hull is 88, chances are going to be engine is 88 or newer. Do you not have a title?

    Title?

    I got the number from a small plate screwed onto the block above starter motor.

    Did mercruiser always use letters? I was wondering if my boat has had replacement engine and an old engine has been fitted.

    As soon as I figure out how I will add a pic of the plate I've found

    Regards

    if this works then it is a pic of the plate i found on the engine.
    it is located stbd side aft above the starter motor.
    i believe it to be (possibly wrongly) the engine serial number

    I can't help on the motor but the HIN

    DMR= Donzi Marine Racing

    R= model Regazza

    D= denotes the length as the Regazza came in 17 19 21 23 25

    040 = number built as 88 was the first year for the regazza it's hull 40

    L7 = month of certification Nov 1987 when the build was completed

    88 = model year

    Yes...a title. I know a few states do not have boat titles(Alabama) but if yours does it will have the info and HIN number on it. As far as the engine goes...who cares as long as it runs. A 350 is a 350. What does matter is the drive. There are Gen 1, Gen 2, etc. That you can tell by looking at it usually. The decal will say Gen 2. If not any Merc guy could tell by a couple pics. Iassume with a 350 it has an Alpha drive.

    Thankyou everyone for your help!

    The boat will run soon.
    When I bought her the waterpump pulley was wobbling all over the place so a mew one arrived today. I've thought better not run her without replacing it.
    The engine just been rebuilt so was a bit dissapointed with that but new heads ers and it purrs!

    Thankyou again

    Ryan
