How fast is your Magnum 27

It would be fun to get information how fast YOUR Magnum is.

Let us know your power-setup ,prop and speed.

My Magnum 27 Sport (hull 178) is:
    Single 496 HO 425 HP 63MPH with Mirage 23" (55 knots)

(Anyone having twin Mercury 377: Curious about the performace with that power setup)

Twin 320 EFI Mercs, Bravo 1s with 21p Mirage Plus...and old bottom paint.

67 GPS....should see 70 without the bottom paint?

That list is interesting to say the least .

Is it just me , or was everyone else expecting much higher numbers too ?

This was a APBA timed event, thats all they did back in 1976. A factory stock P class Volvo 300hp Mag 55 to 57mph. A Trs 280 Mag stock 61 to 65mph. I bought the Showdown Mag and 65mph thats all it would do with the stock 280hp engines. I later modified it to the new 1980 APBA specs & she ran 71mph, but had I raised the drives into the rub rail 75mph could have been reached. But it was 1980 and we were still learning what worked.

    What is the speed with:

    Single 496 HO = 63 mph
    Single Mercury Racing 525 EFI = ?
    Single Mercury Racing 600 SCI = ?
    Twin Mercury 377 (320 hp each) = ?

Please fill in missing values (What do you think and why)

    All info is interesting.

I am in need for more speed.

Me = The perpetual boat speed skeptic ..

    Staffan .. Is your 496 stock ? ?

    'Cause my 25 Mag with a 502 mag (admittedly a B3) might touch 60 on a good day ,, but I'd only expect maybe 63 if I switched out to a B1.

These are heavy, hard to push hulls and if your doing 63 with a stock 496 you must have done a few things very right !

Swedish water is fast - one cold summer evening.
Engine is remounted as high as possible (x-dimension)
Power trim was close to trailer position.

So 63 mph was top speed measured with Garmin GPS

but a normal day my top speed without extreme power trim I do 58

If you guys have any guess what a Magnum 27 Sport will do with a Mercury 600 SCI - I am glad to get your opinion.
Could save a lot of money for me !

    Best regards
