'94 22C First Time in the Water Today!!

Lake Lanier was smooth & glassy, just a few other boats around, and finally, after a few months of travels for work she hit the water today!!!!
What a great boat!!!!
(From my last post, some will remember I purchased the '94 22 Classic, 5.7, 350 with from Lake Arrowhead, California with only 80 hours on her. (for my Navy Seal son)....And then, I confused everyone by also purchasing an '03 22 Classic with a 496 HO a few weeks later. I haven't picked up the '03 yet, but will within a few weeks.)
So, a good 10 hour shakedown cruise today on the '94 5.7 and I love the boat!!! Handles great, cuts through waves nicely, planes immediately, tight/ no rattles, just an all around great boat!!!
Ok Phil, now's time for some tech help...... Topic - Prop Selection...
Current Status: Full of Gas, Trimmed properly, Load of one to 3 people -(didn't matter), Result 49 MPH and 5,200 RPM.

Current Prop- Aluminum 19 Pitch... What would a 21 or 23 Pitch do to help the top end a little????

I had a 15.5" X 22" Hydro Q4 on my Minx (20' and similar hull and a little lighter) w/a 350 SBC and would do 65 on a good day.

that alu prop is killing the top speed..also what altitude was the boat in? if its more than 4000 ft i would stop using it and have the carb re jetted for your altitude,could be lean and you dont want to hurt the engine..if your going to put through hull on it then i would prop for it..a turbo 1 prop in a 23 pitch would work out perfect,after the through hull it should put you at 4800 rpm.

The lake elevation is 1076 feet above sea level, so we should be ok on the jetting. I'll take a look at the plugs after my next day out....
I couldn't decide between a 21 or a 23.... I believe I would like the 23 pitch performance better, just want to do my homework and gather as much info as possible. Mr. Fixall, your input is much appreciated....

Can not really comment on a 260 setup but my Tempest 300 on a good day would turn 5000 doing 61.3 GPS with a 3B 21" wheel running through a 1.5 Alpha. IMO a strong 260 should be in the upper 50's. Turning 5200 you may be sitting on the limiter, try a 21 with a good cup see where that gets you, I would shoot for just under 5000 light@WOT. Every boat seems to like a different prop, borrow if you can until you get the best results. Phil

Yup - it would have wanted re-jetting to run happy at that altitude. So if the previous owner set it up right for his lake, you're running lean now.

That also explains the smaller prop - high altitude/less power/smaller prop. 49 mph is definitely down from where you should be. I'd expect that setup to be around 60, but the guys here have already given you some good pointers on props.

MOP and Fix are on this like white on rice...they know what they're talking about here.

Very much appreciated! Fix, my bad, I understand your comment about altitude, now... I'll check the plugs and go from there, on the jetting. As soon as I can get my hands on a prop 21 or 23, I'll post the outcome...

I know we have 20-21-22 Turbo's right now that would be perfect for you, some new, some very good used, I would try a 21 first, but maybe settle on a 20 in the end, let me know by PM if we can help you and we can ship them to you, the props owner lives on the same lake you boat on...

Remember the little 22c s.b.....
The change from the aluminum 19P to a 23P Mirage Plus netted a speed change from 49 to 58MPH with 3/4 tank of gas and 450 lb of driver/ passenger weight.... The 22C feels alive... Pulls, planes, runs perfect....
Loaded with 5 people, estimated 850 lb, she still does 54!!!! RPM's are great!
May get 60 with one less person and a little less fuel?????

yep, should go at least 60. Here comes the trimming & seat-time. I have found out my 23" mirage is quite sensitive in right or wrong trimming. My GT21 goes straight to 45-50 mph and then it is a combination of more throttle and more drive-trim. On a good day, single person and little fuel in the tank it does over 60 gps. And I as far as I remember the GT is heavier than the 22C, shorter but higher freeboard and wider. I remember there is a southamerican guy here on board who has a 22C-clone with a 260HP 5.0 MPI, it does also over 60. Sorry, can't remember his name. Good luck and fun with testing
