What's the proper way for taking fluids reading?

When the boat is on the trailer?
When the boat is on the water?
    Or doesn't matter?

What brand/fluid you use for the outdrive trim on 496 HO/B1X?

If you're referring to engine oil level, try to simulate on the trailer the same angle the boat would be while at rest in the water.

I'm checking all the fluids...so boat in the water is the proper and simulate the angle when on trailer.
