thanks for the information . when you say over 1000, is that including the 700 pre eighties boats?
yes in total from the begining to now.
Jason,
to answer your question how many a year you need to look at the era especially for the 16.
In the early days they made a lot, by 68 they had made over 400 hulls so they were making approx 100 16 hulls a year. Then during the Chisholm era they became more of a high end "custom" type production company. From 68 to the stop in production they made approx 300 more boats making less than 30 hulls a year. There are other reasons for this too. they had alot of different models and the 18 really took over as the entry level donzi.
In the 80s they made NONE! Then in 90 model year OMC re-introduced the 16 now with starboard steering the molds were pulled from a splash being made at the time. OMC was a mass production company the boat was given the name 'sweet 16" production numbers and HIN had changed at that point. after 1984 gone were the running totals in favor of the yearly total. This new format makes calculating total a bit hard without info from the mfg'r.
When AMH took ownership in 93 they continued the 16 production but added the 2+2 seating in the mid 90s. they continued to make both types of 16 until 2000 ish . At this point they dropped the sweet 16 from production as well. only the 2+2 classic was produced then in 2007 they re-introduced the sweet 16 for a year or so then dropped it again. Now any classic is a custom order they are not Production boats anymore.
current ownership should have records for their run since 93,
thanks For all the information , i did not know most of that
How many Donzi 18s have been built as compared to the 16s since they were both first put into production ?

SG,
I guess someone who only gives cryptic answers would know what one looks like
If you have a question on the production numbers of the 18 ask it in another thread not in a thread about production numbers of the 16
Jason,
sorry if the answer I gave on the 16 wasn't clear or if it was confusing . If you have any questions please ask them.
No problem and thanks, and by what you wrote about the 18 classic i would say that there were about 1400 -1500 ever made . close ?
3200 boats ???
3200 is not correct...
the correct answer is nobody really knows the EXACT amount, since all the ownership cycle records were not handed down properly or complete.
that's the best answer, there may have been some overstating in actually production numbers during the ownership transitions too before HIN's.
besides the early boom years and the mass production of OMC the classics have been a relatively low production boat ( 50 or less a year in each model). If you had access to the old registry here and went by hull numbers in a given year prior to OMC and the chris craft donzi that would give you some general ideas.
IN 1969 16 hull numbers were in the 500 range and 18 hull numbers were in the 300 range
By 1977 the 16 were in the 700 range and the 18 were in the 500 range
but by 1980 the 16 were still in the 700 range and the 18 were there as well.
so for the first 16 years or so ( 64-80) judging by hull numbers some 1400
16 and 18 had been built not including the 16 baby or the x 18 or corsican ( all of which were born and died in that time frame). If you add those to the numbers , you'll see they were pushing out on avg over 100 hulls yearly in one form or another in 16 and 18 feet.
