    Bennett Trim Tabs Mounting ?

My '86 22c has the standard Bennett trim tabs and I want to remove them. Upgrading.

How are they mounted ? I am suspecting that they are thru bolted.
A couple of the bolts/screws (#12 maybe) came out but the others just turn.
The good news is the transom is dry behind the screws that came out.

I guess I am going to have to cut the wood shelf above them.

    Any words of wisdom.....

I've never tried to remove the Bennets from my Donzi, but I've done so on plenty of larger boats and I've never seen them thru-bolted, just wood screws and adhesive (5200 or similar). Heck, I've seen the screw heads corrode completely off half the mounting screws and the adhesive still hold the hinge plate to the transom.

    You need two of you!
One of you on the inside to hold the nuts from turning.
Or grow some 6' long arms.
Either way, they aren't bad to remove.

Snap "Vise Grips" on the nuts they will hold them for removal, you can put them back the same way, start the nuts then clamp on to them and tighten from the outside. Short arms can do that stunt!
