I have always believed that it just adds more drag with its increased width. It is too easy to get a skeg repaired by welding it back to original instead of adding the skeg guard. Just my thoughts, Bill

Yes it will. Chances are the skeg will be bent, too.

i faw of my friends have them on their boat's because where we boat it does get shallow in some spots and it protects the skeg from getting brolen off...they have not seen ant loss in mph..

Correct. On hulls that are not very fast you would not usually notice a difference at all.. On very fast hulls you do have the chance at potentially loosing a little tiny bit speed... Jamie / Lakeside

Had one on my King Cobra, did not notice any difference or think it robbed any speed on mine.

will they actually work? if you hit somethin goin fast u are loosing the guard the sheg, everythin... i guess they might protect in a slower impact

Thanks for the opinions. I managed to come across a lower for doing some work to a friends boat. It has the skeg guard already on it. I was bit weary about using the lower, if the skeg guard was a performance inhibitor. but now that I have all of your blessings. I may just use it. and keep my other one as a spare for the just in case scenario.

Just put one of those fold-down trolling boards on the cavitation plate as well while you're there....
