Amazing that boat went for so cheap. It looks like someone got an awesome deal on it.
Wow. It was in my neighborhood, but I have never seen it here at Lake Texoma. Bill

Nice looking Cobalt - basically all original.
I laughed at some of the "artistic license" they took in describing the history of this particular boat though. I have never heard the Donzi/Cobalt struggle over these hull designs presented that way before. I seriously doubt Cobalt and Donzi were ever in "partnership", or that Cobalt had any hand in designing the 16', 18' and Corsican models - I've always heard they just ripped them off.
As for this one being one of a kind, I doubt that also. Never heard of an XV500, just the GT-500 which this particular boat resembles in every way. Also, GT-500s are not as rare as they claim, I have seen quite a few of them pop up for sale over the last 15 years.
Someone got a fantastic deal on this boat.
For posterity. Got to have the pictures for when the ad is no longer available.
MY BAD! I just noticed I mis-labeled the pictures. They should be Cobalt GT 500.

Wow, nice boat, shame about the engine bay though...guess that is why it went for that price....
Yep, it sounds like some of the crap I have heard at any number of used car lots. It does look like an original boat that would make a sweet unusual restored boat for someone, though. Sweet deal. Looks like a Corsican, even has the orginal Bilt Rite interior. I still have the pattern.
I spoke directly to Pack St. Clair from Cobalt about the early days of the models that they built as splashes from other companies. He told me how they learned from Donzi at the Chicago Boat Show in 1970 and were issued with a cease and desist order for building any more Knock Offs. His quote as I remember was something like this, " We learned then and there that it was no way to move forward with our company, so we developed our own hulls going forward."
Interesting tidbit on Cobalt history...and philosophy. I sure liked the Corsican design...surprised no one carried on with it.
That's a really cool boat. I dig the interior and seat layout. SBF power guess that's a 302 being a 70 no? Or did the 289 remain in marine use longer than the automotive production 289?
I for one would love to see more of this boat. Not a big fan of the Corsica but this one gets to me. If I had seen it I would have paid that price. It was a steal for the condition.
Maybe this is the boat Scott is selling the Hornet to get??!!??!!
