A little more! The casting number and date code tells you what year the block is. E = 1980s T = ? (6 = 6th year, 7 = 7th year, etc.) T = Truck E = Ford Engine Engineering Division (The casting number only tells you what the part was originally designed for, not what it was in. Ford shares parts across many model lines.) 6 = 1986 A = January 27 = 27th day Mustang V-8 blocks around '81 or '82 moved the dipstick from the timing chain cover to the driver-side of the block. The block actually has a hole cast in it, and the dipstick tube fits into that hole. Timing chain covers are interchangeable, so ones with a dipstick provision can be removed for one without, and vice versa.

how sure are you the boat is a 1969????
ET was one of the casting codes used for the Eaton marine 165hp and 210 hp interceptor which was a ford based 289 motor prior to 1968 by 69 holman moody 235hp 302 were being used with a a totally different numbering system.
I am sure one of the motor guys here can tell you what to look for to see if it is a 302 or a 289
of course pictures of the boat, drive, and motor will help

but looking at the link there is an late 1980's E7TE FORD block number for the 302 could you have mistaken the 7 for a T???

The 165 HP Eaton/Interceptor was a 260 cu. in. Ford

Is your firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 and does it have a 3 bolt crank pulley if not it is not an HO. I went through a ton of trouble to find the 3 bolt pulley for mine, I ended up buying two I still have one with the Ford stickers on it!

the info I have is from 1968 and it indicates both HP versions were 289 based??? perhaps prior to 68 they used 2 different blocks?? by 68 they were using eaton made by volvo drives

I guess we need to know if this is an early original motor or a mid 80's replacement motor.

Yes, I am speaking of the 165 HP Interceptor that would be prior to 1968 and is based on the 260 cu. in. Ford.
Somewhere toward the late 60's the 16' Donzi's were availalble with the Mercruiser 165 HP based on an inline 6 cylinder Chevy. That "long" engine was barely showhorned into the 16. There was one on our lake back then.
I was not aware of a 165 HP version based on a 289 cu. in. by Volvo or anyone else.
Back to the 260; it had the 4 bolt bell housing but most 289's and all 302's have the five bolt housing. If one wanted to upgrade to a 289 or 302 from a 260, they would have to buy a 5 bolt bell housing that mates to an Eaton...which is what I did.
