What should I pay for 1987 Donzi Z21

Well as you may know have posted here to seek advise about new boat, found a nice 1987 Z21 with 454 and pretty clean, would call it average. The owner aquired from friend and has no idea what to ask for it. NADA hits it at like 5500k...he says he would like more, but does not know how much more....any advise?

    Thanks

The price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Why not have a survey done?
    Does it have a trailer?
Lots of things determine the value.

I was told NADA is not a good source not sure for older boat.

I was looking at a 06 22 Classic, NADA = 25K, selling asking 39K, bank blue book and survey had it for 38-42K

If you are buying, NADA is a great resource, especially on Donzi's.

The things you should look for would be in a suveyers report.

Yes...Strongly, recommend you get a competent surveyor to look over any boat your interested in purchasing along with a sea trial.

It'll save ya alot of grief down the road/next spring.

What is stringer rot, how do I check for it?
How expensive is a survey and where do I find a person to complete one?
    Thanks

Stringer & transom rot is labor intense which = costly in most cases.. Not that they would not necessarily be worth repairing, but it is nice to know what you are getting into. Jamie / Lakeside

Soft floor, gas smell, check the motor mounts area,,pat close attention to where the motor mount sit on,it they are not flat and look to be sunk in run and fast...it you get the boat really cheep and if the rest of the boat is in great condition then it may be worth putting the money into it..also take a long screwdriver and poke around the transom an see if it slides in real easy,,it would be like sticking something into a piece of Styrofoam..
