Prop for 302 HM/ Volvo 250 (Sweet 16)

I recently purchased Chip W's 1969 Sweet 16. Boat has a 302 HM / Volvo 250 package. Chip did a great job completing an earlier restoration of this boat and I am picking up where he left off. At the top of my list is a high performance SS prop to replace the aluminum 15x21 elephant ear Michigan. This prop is probably good for towing skiers but has poor top end performance-- turned 4300rpm and barely cracked 40mph.

I'm considering purchasing either a Solas Titan 15x21 or 15x23 and having it worked by DAH to optimize performance. They have props that fit the 270, 275, 280 & 290 AQ series volvo drives. Does anyone know if any of these props will fit the 250?

Any other suggestions for a prop for this boat?

unfortunately the guy you would get those props through has just passed away( R.I.P. Grizz)

yes people on here like the solas prop,,they give you better handling that the volvo ultra propellers i run but i think the ultra props i run have been labbed by DAH so theirs no comparison to the solas..If you have a 19 spline shaft then yes it will fit the 250 drive but be aware on the slippage because the solas bites more and could kill the drive..John @ DAH knows his stuff,he is one of the best prop guy's arounf and stand behind his work..

I spoke with John@DAH earlier today and those were the props he recommended. I haven't found any Volvo ultra props for sale anywhere online. I did find this on eBay: 14x22 on eBay:

Fixx-- so you think the Solas will have too much bite for the 250? It's been rebuilt fairly recently and Chip maintained it well. I'm just finishing up replacing all the bushings in the steering and locking pawls.

I'm feeling guilty about this because of the loss of grizz..

if your not hard on the hole shot it will be fine..the titan i think is what everybody uses but its a big diameter propeller @ 15 5/8'' and if you have a torque tab on your prop it will hit it.. you will need to trim it..
they also make a ''new Saturn '' propeller which i think would work better on your boat,its only 15'' diameter and you may not need to trim the torque tab..
if it were my boat i would like to try the scorpion they make,i think it would make the boat haul the mail but you would have to inquire solas to see if they make a hub for it or see if they will press a rubber hub in it for you.

if your going to have john lab the prop i would have him make the prop 14 1/2'' then do his labbing,smaller diameter prop seems to get more speed out of the volvo aq drive..

The solas will fit, but like Fixx said you will have to remove or trim the torque tab. You might want to consider the 19". These are very grippy props, with low slip. I tested the 19 and 21 with a stock 260 hp SBC. I chose the 21, based totally on RPMs, 4800-4900. The 19 handled the same, just had a bit higher rpms (something like 5100).
