Ballpark top speed/16 4.3 EFI with Bravo

Although I lust for an 18, She Who Must Be Obeyed has voiced a preference for a 16. There is a 96 16 nearby with a 4.3 EFI and a Bravo. No through hull, bone stock Bravo.

Assuming a 230 lb. forum lurker driving with 110 lb SWMBO in overall command and a half tank of gas, what would be a ballpark top speed and cruising speed?

The 4.3 is a nice package in a 16. 52-57 or so depending on the hp.

My 16 with a 4.3 H.O/OMC Cobra runs 55 mph.

yeah, but you can build an all alloy 322" V6 that nobody else will have too...

that setup in a 16 with an SS Alpha would be very interesting..

The 4.3 is just a small block with 2 cylinders cut off, but the range of goodies is a pretty restricted once your get past the rotating assembly.

GM has one set of trick heads with 2 different intake patterns.
There are cast iron and aluminum 4 barrel intake manifolds from GM.

Brodix makes a set of high rpm and low rpm head$:

$1300 for naked GM heads, 1600 for Brodix.

You can port the stock heads but the end results are supposedly tepid:

Since you have the front 3/4 of a small block, you could also go with a supercharger...

But it always comes down to the same factors that make 383 strokers popular in smaller boats and big blocks in the big boats. It is vastly easier and cheaper to get the ponies out of a larger displacement mildly tweaked motor. If you consider the availability of a brand new GM marine 383 stroker at $4600, the 3 grand you spend tweaking your 4.3 is less attractive.

I'm just a lurker with no Donzi (used to have a Formula), so I have a lot to learn or re-learn. Since my Donzi fever has come out of remission I am learning what has changed since I was last a boat person. In engines, not a ton except for EFI. I was struck by how few of the GM LS motors, particularly the aluminum blocks, aren't being used in boats. (Yes, a closed cooling system would be mandatory). The answer is simple - there's no replacement for displacement. Get the iron block and use it as a bigger hammer.
