Which 18? Looking for Donzi 18 Input...

OK...been looking at the Donzi 16 and 18...narrowed it down to the 18, more room, longer LOA, more room under the engine hatch...

    Now which one...

    The 1965 to 1968 18 2+3 Barrelback?
Supposedly about 230 made... 24 degree dead rise deep V bottom boat with full length inner lifting strake, and the classic arched transo.

    The 1968 to Present 18 2+3 Classic
It has the same seating arrangement as the 18 2+3 Barrel back but the sharp keel was rounded and the inner lifting strake was shortened and ends a foot or so shy of the transom. Also gone also was the arched transom. Will the difference in hull design effect performance?

    Or the 1972 to 1979 X-18
About 171 or so built and supposedly has the same hull as an 18 2 +3 with a different deck. The deck had a destinctive rise in the foredeck and on the rear deck and transom junction.

I guess it will boil down to whats out there when I get ready to pull the trigger in September but right now I'm looking for input...some, "If I had my choice I'd get a....because"...

I am really looking for FORD POWERED boat but wont turn down the right boat or deal because of it...I am looking to take an older hull and build a HOT ROD...I have mad skilz (thanks dad) and plenty of time...

Discuss...feel free to post pics of your 18 too...How about some DONZI 18 PORN...

I know of a nice original x 18 for sale not Ford power but it has an Alfa SS on it.
Send me a PM if you are interested I will get you in touch with the owner.
My feeling about what boat to get is get a x 18 it will hold its value due to the limited amount built.

The round keel boats w/the short inner strakes do perform better overall as the hull doesn't need the additional lift at the stern.

X boats are cool and are slightly faster due to better aerodynamics everything else being equal.
