    Question 454 ignition help

having trouble with circa 1978 thunderbolt ignition on 454 bbc. some kind of disc trigger nobody seems to have seen before p/n 332 3984A33 ? Wondering about MSD 83606 ready to run distributor or 8560 with 6M-2 cd box and coil? Want to be sure I am going upgrade and not backwards. you all have been very helpfull with new heads on my 350 and cooling 350, so I am asking again. So, what ignition system for older 454? Thanks, Bob. Also, Does anyone have expierence with the MSD #83606 ready-to-run distributor with CD built in?

I don't know what the relative difference in price is, but you could easily update to a newer T-bolt IV on eBay.
I've tracked these before and have seen all kinds of prices and there's always a lot available.

msd is good stuff but the 6m-2 box's dont seem to last as log as the 6al box.. i have the msd distributor in my x18 and a 6al box..if you decide to go with the 6m you may want to buy 2, 1 for in use and 1 for back up..

That deal Howard has is a TB V with a hipo curve on the distributor. It's in good shape. I wouldn't have swapped it for an MSD distributor. I bought the distributor on ebay, and the hipo box on ebay also. The only difference between a TB IV and a TB V is a knock sensor. I just left it unhooked. Very little can go wrong with today's distributors. In the old days, the first thing you checked were your points.

My IV is 25 years old and works flawlessly unlike much of the aftermarket stuff, a few years back I bought a spare pack and distributor now gathering dust but there if I ever do need them.

Does anyone have a MSD distributor on a BBC? either the 8560 or 83606?

This is the impression I have about t-Bolts too.
When they go, I'd consider another.
