I was super careful putting together, used an inch pound torque wrench, just went snug on the clamps...at first I thought that's what it was, a loose clamp, since I felt i did not really tighten down on them...then i felt the split in the case..I haven't gotten down with a mirror yet to look....

Just very frustrating, I'm starting 2 weeks off, and will spend half that waiting for parts....

For less money that a SST replacement, you could install a Johnson crank driven pump, not have to remove the hoses, and change the impellor in 5 minutes.

I am home now and here is the link to the SS pump. I think it is a bargain at $170. They even used the plastic pump housing on the "racing" engines.

These may not fit the 330 but maybe they have one that does?

Bit of a side note on the stock Merc pump. Year ago, I was rebuilding the one on my 18. Being a little anal, I took out the Merc manual found the torque spec on the housing bolts. Took out the torque wrench and...crack.

Boy was I pissed. Went back to the manual and looked at the spec again. The newton-meter number was correct but the english number was wrong by about a factor of about ten. Whomever wrote the book, took the metric number and converted it, incorrectly.

I sent a letter to Merc and complained, pointing out the error in their manual. They promptly sent me a complete, brand new pump. No questions asked. Couldn't believe it. Big fan, happy customer.

Holy crap what happened to the prices on these things? I paid less than $300 on a Labor Day weekend a couple years ago.
    Thanks,

Merc only made about 10 million of them. The one Howard has is the last year of the large port, large valve edition. After that they went to the better known "peanut port 330". Read the history of Merc engines for further clarification.

I have an extra water pump to a 330 TRS. I had to change pumps when I changed exhaust.

I have a Jabsco #43210 for sale. This is the bronze housing replacement for the plastic Merc. It may need a new impeller.
