    Alpha Gen II repair costs?

So...my 96 C16 377hp w/ Alpha gen II went kaput (300 ish hours)....my boat guy (I trust him) said the teeth on the upper gear to the lower unit are gone/sheared....He can buy a rebuilt w/ 1 year warranty "all in" for about $2k or he can repair the gears for about 1/2 that. He's consulted with Mercruiser in the past & is highly recommended in the local boating community. I'm tending toward the rebuilt as he prob. can do it as well as someone else. Seem to be in the ball park price wise? Thanks, Scott

SEI offers new drives w/a 3 year warrantyfor $1,200-ish.
A number of members here have purchased them, including myself.
They do stand behind their warranty.

Just another option w/a much longer warranty.

Just installed an SEI and would recommend it. Hard to beat the 3-year "no fault" warranty.
