    Greg,

Life hasn't been very forgiving lately, but I finally have your tank calcs completed, overall and by inches.

Your tank came in at 53.4 gallons overall using the outside dimensions. Accounting for the volume of the aluminum, should give you 51.0 gallons inside volume. Due to the nature of the tank design and the sender design, when you reach 'E', you will have about 5 qts of fuel left.

    Sorry for the delay.

Man, if this motor wasn't so darn fugly, it would be a pretty damn cool on the transom of Surface Tension. Built by the best Yamaha guys in the business............

Yamaha 3.1L OX66 EFI 340hp with Phase III kit from Hydro Tec, ported and blueprinted block, light weight flywheel, light weight cowling, 3.3L front half and 6 pedal reeds and blocks, Big bore throttle body with velocity stack and 1 inch spacer, 16 inch mid section with Sportmaster gearcase or available with Yamaha HPDI gearcase with new Fatshaft, both with 1.75 gear ratio.

We got a dyno print off my Mercury Promax 225 and it was dissapointing at 230HP. We have a couple of things to look at in hopes of finding a few more ponies but these motors would come out of the box at 245 so overall a bummer if we can't find the gremlin. That said, the weak Promax pushed The Mule to 78mph.

So the choices look like ........

    Mercury Promax 225 -- 230HP -- 89 Octane -- 20" Lower -- 410lbs
    Mercury 2.5 280 -- 282HP -- 93 Octane -- 15" Lower -- 380lbs
    Yamaha 3.1 250 -- 340HP -- 93 Octane -- 16" Lower -- 475lbs

Dang why can't that Yamamonster look better

Finally some progress. The 2.5 EFI SS is rigged and on the back of The Mule as a test bed to determine if it can/should be rigged onto Surface Tension. Had to make a few adjustments and hope to get it in the water later this week to start tests. This wacker, unlike all the others is actually super healthy so I am really looking forward to Lee's initial test feedback. These guys are old school drag racers and have a ton of hours with the 2.5's over many years. The first few passes should be interesting.

Waiting on templates to send to the fab shop. He is backlogged 4 months or so, evidently has no idea the economy is in a downturn

This particular motor is direct ingestion. You cue up your squirrels and feed them into the tube. The more you can fit, the more likely you can run with the bbc's

First test run out with the 2.5 SS on The Mule yielded 75mph with a lot of stick left. Need to work on propping now as she is porpoising a lot so could not push past 75

More runs with the new power and Mule got 81mph with a Fury 27p at 7100RPM. This has the potential to be scary fast on Surface Tension with the perfect pad. The Mule needs a lot more wheel to properly perform its test duties. Probably 28's or 29's which are hard to find. Full confirmation now that the SS will work in the application dropping the PH CG nicely

Impressive run Greg. Do you know what reduction you have in the gearcase? Just want to calculate the slip.

That case has 1.87's in it Bompanen. Factory Torque Tamer and a slight mod to the blow out ring.
