Here is a safety hinge (6"Lx2.5"W) with removable pin. Thought it might work well with my rumble hatches. Looks simple enough right? I am sure that no one will guess the actual price of this 17-4 SS product.

I will need (4) hinges for the rumble hatches and then I have to decide if I want to keep the original hinges for the transom inspection hatches so that may be another (4). Here are a few choices.........whatever I decide to use will need to have removable tethered pins.

I'm thinking that these hinges would be cool for the rumble hatches, now if I can just get the dimensions. I saw them on Ebay but no response back yet from the vendor that supposedly supplies them new. I'm not pleased with the fact that one side is counter sunk and the other isn't, kind of strange. I think the big radius will make it easy to line up and pin the rumble hatches when they are being placed into position for seat backs. I forget what surface material is better for the chrome plating process, I'll have to ask what these things are made of.

    Greg:
In your post #380 above I have the second Take-apart hinge pair, from the top of your photos, on my motorbox of my American Skier Eagle.

Mine are Chrome on Brass but I see the very same hinges made of Stainless steel !
They are well built indeed !

Whatever you do end up buying ~~~try to go with all Stainless Steel~~~
They aways look good & last forever !

Thanks Brad and George. I thought I'd run across more vintage stuff that could be re-chromed but so far no luck. George, that hinge in pic #1 look to be very substantial and might be a great choice for the front floor locker under the bow that will take a real pounding. I ran across these 6" slimline hinges and am thinking of how they might look installed on the transom hatches instead of the factory stuff. I also like the fact the stress points are really spread out in that area. Not sure yet if the quality is there though.

Stay away from that Perko & Attwood Diecast Zamak Zink junk !
This hardware stuff self-destructs & pitts while you are looking at it ; especially in a Salt water & air environment !

I have had many hinges & other marine hardware break over the years ~~~

Zinc Dicast, Chromed Brass/Bronze, and Stainles Steel stamped sheet metal.

I only buy heavy duty Cast Stainless Steel marine hardware now !

And I through-bolt everything with back-up washers and lock nuts .

Agree Brad. It is getting harder and harder to find cast 316 SS hinges these days. I did run across the mother of all hinge vendors. For those who care, I have attached there custom hinge ordering sheet. I would say it qualifies as "complete"! On top of that, I found this blurb of particular interest. It was almost surreal in today's marketplace .........thumbs up for www.normonthinge.com

    Minimum Order
It has been Normont policy that all orders, and customers, are important to us therefore there is no minimum order requirement. For orders below $50.00 there is a $7.00 handling fee.

I need to think through my armrest concept. My plan is to cut the backrest of the bench so that a rectangular hole is there when you fold down the armrest. You can put a ski through it or reach into the wet stowage cooler. To do this, I need to located the proper vendor who makes this fold down hinge. Anyone have an idea of where I might turn to source one? Here is a pic..........

At the same time, I got some upholstery samples in from one vendor, Morbern. They are really easy to work with.

But I will make a few adjustments to modernize a touch, like this smooth roll treatment which also helps with wear.

Did a little looking around to see what might be available out there for armrest hinges. The only thing I found so far is from Jammy inc and it is not exactly the quality I need but I posted a pic. I'll keep looking around

Sometimes it amazes me how hard it is to get information on things for the project. I found these hinges on Ebay,
"Ford 3 Window Coupe Windshield Hinge Set 32 1932" and thought if the dimensions were correct, that they would make great hinges for the rumble seat hatches if I had them chromed. I like the "hoop" bracketry. Well, three attempts to get a reply back from the seller and so far nothing
