I am going toward a very bright yellow for sure. Here is a picture that compares Millenium with Lemon Ice, both from PPG.

My sample color chip should be in from Mini Craft early next week so it will be interesting to see how it compares to the two PPG colors below. 16 OB Baby's were available from the factory in white with yellow stripes but there were very very few that way of the (170) total hulls produced with wackers.

In the meantime, Bill Wahl, who is a long time member here was good enough to mail me some old vinyl he had sitting around. According to Bill when we spoke, the vinyl came along as surplus when he bought his 1966 Yellow 16 Ski Sporter with black stripe and HM 302. He said that he bought that boat in 1976, used it for 15 years, and proceeded to put the extra naugahyde away in the closet for the next 39 years until I asked him about it. He took it out and sent it to me from the Great Northwest gratis! Bill, thank you!! I laid out the vinyl today against some Millenium Yellow and Velocity Yellow to get a look. I'm assuming that the naugahyde would have been a factory yellow color. Another thing that will be interesting to compare to the color chip from Mini Craft when it arrives on Monday.

I also contacted Bob at Bilt-Rite. Bob made the last OB interior ever for my other 16 OB before he retired. He was good enough to give me a few excellent clues on the vinyl. He also indicated that in looking back in his archived notes from the original owners of Bilt-Rite, there was a mention of a color called "Lemon Peel" that may have been the vinyl used by the Donzi factory when the customer wanted a yellow interior.

    Thanks Bob for the help!

We did some checking on the depth of the hidden rumble seats. Kids will feel safe sitting down "in" the boat instead of on it like a stock Ski Sporter. Also, lined up the under bow floor storage locker and finished the hidden fender holders that will hold extra big bumpers under the rear hatch lids for rougher conditions. The guys also finished building up and shaping the fiberglass pad that the custom bow eye will be fastened against. Came out great

The Fed-X guy just dropped off the Mini-Craft spray sample of yellow so time to go outside in the 10 degree bright sunshine and take a look at it for match.

The folks at Mini-Craft were really helpful. At first they did not have anything in there computers for a historical color match. Then, after looking back into paper files they found the codes for "Yuma Yellow" that was supplied to Donzi in the 1960's by Ferro. I wanted to check out Yuma Yellow as I had research that showed it had been a color offered by Donzi in the 1960s. I started by finding an ad in the St Petersburg paper from Christmas 1966 where a dealer was selling a "Yuma Yellow" 18. Then I poked around the site to try and find an example of an unfaded yellow from a 1960s hull and found a couple of pictures of a 1969 hull but not much more.

The Yuma tint looked like a bright yellow like I wanted ..............Where they came up with the name "Yuma" I have no idea.

I was surprised that out of what is probably several hundred thousand pictures on this site ( I myself have 2k+) over the last 15 years that I could only find a couple that depicted the "Yuma Yellow" factory color offering. Here are the two pics I found in larger format. I'm sure that Donzi made very few yellow boats to begin with out of all the 16 Ski Sporters built in the 1960's.

Interesting to see how a bright yellow pigment can fade out to almost gold after 40+ years on this 1969 Sweet 16

Greg, where did you get that bow eye shield? That's a decent looking piece.

The rumble seat is turning out awesome.

    Thanks man.

I found that shield back in 2011. A guy on Orange County Craig's List was selling it along with some other small stuff. I snapped it up knowing that Clint would have to modify the boats nose a bit to have it seat properly.

I opened the package from Mini-Craft and was surprised that they sent me a actual glass disc as a color sample. Here is what they sent me ............

I then took the "Yuma Yellow" color sample and laid it against the yellow vinyl sample that Bill Wahl had sent me to see how it compared. Looks pretty darn close which brings up another data point. When Bill sent me the vinyl I tried to reverse ID it from the marks on the back side. It turns out that Naugahyde as a brand was introduced in 1961 by Uniroyal Engineered Products. The Naugahyde portion of the company was bought and taken private by the current management in 2003. I contacted them and they had info for me. It turns out that the ST on the back indicates the naugahyde was produced in there Stoughton Wisconsin plant. The 1-72 stamp indicates it was produced in January of 1972. The Stoughton plant is still home to production today for the company.

Bill Wahl had told me that the vinyl came as surplus with his 1966 Ski Sporter so I suspect that the color of the vinyl as produced in 1972 (it's in perfect condition) is a match to Donzi's "Yuma Yellow" factory color although it would be hard to confirm that 100%.

Here is the match picture .............

In a different thread Bert had been kind enough to post up a picture of the factory colors that Donzi used from 1985 to 1988. Here is the ad.............

When I saw Berts chart I thought the yellow was in the ball park.

Now I can see that Yuma Yellow's code is 799 LT888-C where the later 1988 Yellow has a different code of 766 LT140. Not sure what the -C means or for that matter the GLD.
