    I think in this case,he didn't intentionally take the helmet off, it fell off!!!

    Nah?? A proper fitting 3/4 style helmet that was worn in those days won't just fall off even with the chinstrap un-snapped.
    A half helmet yes and of course todays fullface even w/o a strap won't, so I would venture a guess he didn't like the extra weight bobbing his head around and the spray on the bubble faceshield blurring his vision so he tossed it.

    I read somewhere that he just didnt ever wear it. Always took it off right after the race started. I was just wondering why.
