WMP 11 video plays slow but sounds plays normal

I just got a netbook running Windows Vista Home and, when playing AVI videos, the sound portion plays at normal speed but the video portion plays half to one-third speed. WMP version is 11.0.60001.7007. On the "Performance" tab in "Options", I have checked the "Drop frames to keep audio and video synchronized" box but it didn't fix the problem. It was, however, unchecked when I first checked it. It's set up to "Download codecs automatically".

I found a forum reply that addressed this problem here: http://forums.techarena.in/media-player/648560.htm, but my version of WMP doesn't have a "Use High Quality Mode" box to check.

    Can anybody help?

I was gonna say install Win 7. It'll fix it, TRUST ME.
