question about the oil cooler,,, i got the 3x18 dual cooler from Revolution marine. Do you think a thermostat will be necessary??? Could the oil really run to cool??? The oil filter right now without a cooler is hott. Like it will burn your hand hott when I run the boat. What do u guyz think. Can't wait to remove the winter cover an get started on many improvements an maintenance work
Jim, as a shortcut, get one of these from Amazon, they'll answer all your questions.
    http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Laser...ds=ir+temp+gun
They're really inexpensive right now. I just bought two extras. My wife uses one in the kitchen.
After your boat comes up to temperature, just shoot the shell, where the oil is. If it's too low, 150* or so, you may need a thermostat.
I found my problem, the oil temp sender is in the pan, on the same side as the starter.
When I dropped the starter in the bilge some months ago, I skinned one of the sender's wires and it quit working. I'm waiting now to get 10 hours on the engine so I can change it and the sender.

I ran the Rev Marine Dual Cooler without a stat on my 1996 502MPI for 6 years and no issues... Oil temp ran up to about 230 when pushing real hard... always above 160 when warm...
    Thank you, Patrick

I have one of these and I agree Mr. Carter. About the best $20 you can spend to get a real temp

You and Bobbi come see us!
Thanks for the invite George. We are planning on it, especially now that our son is in Miami and my sister is in Dunedin. Sometime this year, just not sure when yet.

    Hi Jeff;
Do you mean where the outdrive is mounted? That's standard, 11* or something like that.
The rest of the transom is divided into about four different "zones" some conical, some spherical.
The outdrive mounting area is the only flat area on the transom.

I can certainly vouch for that. Couldn't even lay my tab mount flat against the transom.

    Hi Jeff
The steering is one of the best systems on the boat.
Using K5-B cylinders, your helm and return line filter, my Hynautic reservoir and relief valve, and a GM Type II pump, it's flawless.
I initially had a drive belt problem. I was determined to have the minimum number of belts
on the engine, but I didn't have enough belt wrap on the pump pulley. It worked but if it
wasn't fiddle string tight, it'd slip. So I added another belt and problem solved.

    Hi George,

I think you will appreciate this.
    I personally can't believe it.

I'll be flogging Mr Bill over the holiday weekend so he will make some
    progress on the Spitfire.

    Of course I'm very jealous.........
I have his first book "From Dhows to Deltas" but not autographed!
But I still paid a premium for it.
I've seen your book for sale, but have never seen one.
Have you read From Dhows to Deltas?
