    thermostat?

I have a 1964 16foot with water pick up on the bottom of the boat.It has a 351w with a 280 volvo outdrive, and Glenwood alumanium log type exhaust. The problem is,is that the water pump send the water through the manifolds as a preheater then through the engine then out the exhaust, but there is no t-stat in the t-stat housing If I put a t-stat in, it would stop the water flow when it closed.I hate to sound stupid but there must be a two stage t-stat housing I guess for a 1979 351w,and if so how does it look and where do I get one.(the engine usally runs about 100 degrees, that cant be good.) If any one has any info Iwould sure appriacite it thanks! Jonesy

I ran into a similar problem like that years back, at the time I could not find a by pass Tstat housing. I put a Tstat in but drilled two 1/4" holes in it worked fine. With the availability of by pass housings I would re route the flow so the manifolds get the water on the way out, the fix above should do the trick.
