Annoying programs??

Some programs insist on taking over your computer, what annoys me is windows and Photo shop competing to open CD's and Zip disks. They both race to see who can open the disc faster, s there a way to kill that feature? I tried poking around but have not come up with anything.

To do this right click on the file and choose "open with", then "choose program" this will give you a list of all your programs choose the one you want to open it with check the box then check the box below it that says "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" then click ok.
that should do it you will have to do it for each type of file that you want to change. To prevent this when installing programs if it askes you to change file associations select no unless you want the new program to open all the types of files listed when it asks.

Thanks I was hoping there was a cheat!! In 95+98 you could turn it off, looked all over XP NG!!
