How do you remove "sys32.exe" virus??

I ran Norton Virus protection scan, and found "sys32.exe" and it was discribed as a bad virus. Every time I try to remove it with Norton, it says removal was completed, but then immediately running another virus scan finds it again.
At first I thought Norton was mistaken and was talking about the system32 folder, but Google says it's bad stuff.
How do you get rid of this thing once and for all???
    thanks in advance

First of all sys32.exe is not a virus. This is the file that is being affected by the virus you have. To get rid of a virus, you have to tell us what virus you really have.

Your best bet is to get the 2006 version of norton antivirus and do the following: Start your computer from the 2006 cd-rom disk. Yes this is a self booting disk. Makes the assumption that your computer is new enough to boot up off of a cd-rom disk. You may have a virus that loads into memory when the computer is first starting. If you startup off of a cd-rom, the virus can't load into memory. When your computer starts off the cd-rom disk, it will then scan the entire system and find what virus you have.

If you are cheap, and want a free solution, dowload and install this.

This is free antivirus software for home use only.

Also it is CRITICAL that users keep their system updated. This means installing those pesky antivirus updates and the even more pesky Microsoft updates. If you are on a dialup modem, of course this is next to impossible unless you let things run overnight as the download time is sooooo long. If you are on dsl/cable the do the updates. Remember they are free. Having someone like me come out to your place to fix it, is a hell of a lot more expensive. Geek Squad by the way, is waaaay expensive.

You do maintence on your truck and boat right? Well, why not do it on your computer? I know I'm preaching to the choir, but come on guys, just do it, get-r-done, etc. etc.

    sys32.exe removal

    Gee, thanks Joel, I think...

    check out this link:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

or do a Google search (like i should have done first b4 bothering you all here).

    "sys32.exe

Thanks guys for the input. As you can imagine, I'm a bit spooked about removing a trojan that's named so close to a system folder that is vital to the operation of the computer.
I'll let you know if it worked out (or maybe not!!!! loll)

here is the link again free avg antivirus this is by far the best i have used i am in IT so i have tried just about all of them. Ditch the norton install this it updates automaticaly loads faster and heals every virus it finds and the best part is its free and so are the updates. i just fixed a friends system that would barley run and he had norton with the latest version and still missed several viruses. installed avg ran it let it heal all the infected files and now it runs great. I also always install and run this its not automatic but is a good cleanup software that you should run every week or two. adaware se personal edition

Hey Mike, is Grisoft a spinoff of Gibson Research (GRC.com) or were they formed all on their own? I'll give the URL="http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 a try myself. I also use adaware for the addware/spyware removal - works great!

RagTopMan - keep learning, searching, etc. If fun when the friggin light bulb finally goes off for ya. Remember it's just a computer, when it pisses ya off, unplug the SOB and go have a cocktail/beer, etc. New keyboard is only 10 bucks so go ahead and beat the hell out of it. Oh ya, keyboards make a great boat paddle if you cut the cord off and shove a board up it's arse.

thanks mikev, sounds like AVG is the way to go. You'd think that "pay for" software just might be better than something you can get for free?!?! Go figure. thanks again, greg

It is best to uninstall norton before installing any other antivirus software. just dont surf or open any emails in between. Norton seems to think everyone elses virus software is a virus and messes it up. I am starting to think they have big brother control aspirations to be like microsoft.

Not to mention you have to activate Norton in 30 days or so to keep using it and it only allows a few installs before it tells ya your cut off - Just like Microsoft WinXP. I also have experienced that you have to remove the Norton stuff before upgrading or installing other Antivirus. Heck, as I recall, if you are just upgrading the the next version of Norton antivirus, Norton's own install routine is to automatically unistall the previous version for you.

On the flip side, you do get what ya pay for. AVG and Avast do not have an option that I could find to make a self booting cd-rom that will start your computer and test for viruses automatically. Norton cd disk has this feature. This is especially important if you have a virus that has messed up your ram memory or hard drive upon normal startup. These kind of viruses will NOT let your computer startup on it's own.
