    Captain Jefe

Hey guys, I've been very absent lately. mostly work since I have a new project kicking off, but also because I've been in a Coast Guard certified Captain's School.

We finished up Sunday evening and I passed with a 97%...not bad for a crazy man from Clear Lake Texas.

So, all I have to do now is turn in all my paperwork, pass a Drug test and FBI background check....30-45 days later viola

    El Capitan.

I will have an OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel) Near Coastal, Commonly called a "Six Pack" since I can carry 6 paying customers on an uninspected boat. I will also have a 50 ton Master Inland since my boat is over 5 tons (as classified by the Coasties)

OMG, They gave you a license???? They haven't seen you drive have they? Fess up here, if they didn't have to change thier shorts I'm surprised.

Just kidding, good for you. Anyone who could handle a 33 like you should have breazed thru the coarse.

What's the new project???? I'm getting ready to go back to work, maybe we will meet in the yards one day. Boy would that blow a company away. 2 Donzi nuts trying to get real work done on a job site.

Hey congrats and stay in touch,

Good going on your license. Now you can take friends and guests in your boat legally.. I'm sure you know this, but just to stir some things up...

Here goes. If anyone takes anyone else in their boat, and their guests help pay for fuel, food, or drinks, then they are in USCG violation.

When a guest brings only themselves, then the owner of the boat isn't "for hire". Once a guest brings something to help with the expense of the running of the vessel, then the owner is considered "for hire". I'm sure there is no way to check up on this, because the CG really doesn't enforce this, so no one really cares...But this is the law..

Don't forget to remind yourself that you have 5 years, then you must renew it. You worked hard for this, so don't let it go away. (they do give a 1 yr extension.)
FBI is involved now?? I should have guessed, or I may have forgotten. I do remember the fingerprint thing, but that was it..
I got my 6-pak when I was 19, and got my 100 ton master a few years later. Since I've been out of boating for a while, I just do the "renewed for continuity", so I just show sea time, and get a physical. And I'm back to official.. Having a USCG test facility here, makes it easy to get things done...
    Good luck with your license..

Does that mean if Jefe gets 'any' on the boat it is now considered prostitution?

    Jefe,
Now you can charge people to ride with the Infamous Red Bikini Team. I have had my 50 ton Master's near coastal for about 8 years now. Good Job!!!.
The only draw back about haviung a ticket is that If you get in an accident, you as a Licensed capt will be at fault, no matter who did what. I think that was one the rules, Avoid collisions at all costs.
Now that said let er eat.
